JOB TITLE: SCHOOL GARDENER / MASONRY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN NATURE OF JOB: FULL TIME INDUSTRY: EDUCATION SALARY: KSHS 44,000 JOB LOCATION: KIAMBU ROAD DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, repair, and maintain school structures: walls, walkways, drainage systems, catch basins, drop inlets, floors, railings, and support fixtures.
  • Use appropriate tools to ensure correct vertical and horizontal alignment.
  • Clean and prepare work areas before and after jobs; maintain a tidy site at all times.
  • Carry out accurate estimates of required materials and make proactive suggestions for facility improvement.
  • Follow all health and safety standards; wear protective gear at all times while on duty.
  • Provide general repair support in various areas as needed.
  • Perform full-range turf operations: top dressing, over-seeding, aeration, fertilizer application, and turf laying.
  • Maintain tennis court irrigation; monitor and refill tanks.
  • Implement weed control using safe chemical methods (during holidays) and manual methods (during term).
  • Collect leaves, debris, and litter daily to maintain tidy grounds.
  • Maintain gardening tools and machinery, ensuring equipment is stored and used correctly.
  • Recommend and manage procurement of essential gardening supplies in consultation with the Facility Manager.
  • Monitor pest and disease signs, applying eco-friendly control solutions when required.
  • Ensure Kindergarten children board the correct bus and are safely handed over to parents/guardians.
  • Monitor student safety during transit: seatbelt usage and appropriate behaviour.
  • Report misbehaviour, concerns, or unusual incidents to the Transport Manager.
  • Support bus cleanliness by encouraging responsible passenger behaviour.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of events, school functions, and special activities.
  • Work flexibly to support operational logistics during school holidays, weekends, or after-hours functions as required.
KEY REQUIREMENTS - SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification or vocational training in masonry/gardening or related fields
  • 3 years experience in facilities, construction or institutional maintainance roles
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and protective gear usage
  • Experience handling garden machinery and maintainance equipment
  • Basic communication skills in English and Kiswahili
